A Mail-in Sunshade Personalization Business

If you’ve ever spent time on the Carolina coast, you have probably seen the wall of blue and teal tarps flapping in the ocean air.

You likely know them as Shibumi Shade. A North Carolina based company that created the light and easy to assemble sunshade that covers the Carolina shores and beyond.

While expensive, it’s definitely better than dragging your 10x10 tent across the sand and spending the next 15 minutes assembling…

However, there is one flaw. The only make one version thus every Shibumi looks identical.

This past week, our family vacationed to the beach where we too walked up and down the beach looking for our family members under the Shibumi. There were hundreds of them on the beach and they all looked identical.

Which sparked an idea…

Shibumi only offers one product: the blue and teal sunshade. And I have no desire to compete with them.

But, I would love to customize my Shibumi to at least stand out from everyone else so it is easier to spot out on the beach.

Introducing, Sunshade Stitch — a personalized sunshade monogramming and customization business.

Sunshade owners simply mail in their product (Shibumi) and request their monogram, design, saying, to be added onto their Shibumi or sunshade. Which will be mailed back to them within 7 days.

Sunshade Stitch will hold no inventory and carry very little overhead. Customers will fill out their request online and at checkout will receive their shipping label. All they have to do is print it out, mail in their sunshade, and our team will do the rest.

The ideal time to launch this idea is now. We are at the end of the busy beach season while everyone still has their sunshade out but won’t need it until next year.
